Introduction of the Lutheran Brethren Church

About 70 years ago, in August 1949, a missionary dispatched from The Church of the Lutheran Brethren of America (FergusFalls, Minnesota) started missionary work in the Tohoku area.  Currently, there are 23 churches in the Tohoku area and 3churches in the Kanto area.

The Hiyoshi Lutheran Brethren Church began in 1969. Rev. Yoshio Ito (1968.3〜2014.12) and his wife moved from Sakata toTokyo at the request of the missionary body. At first, he began worship services at Okusawa, Setagaya-ku. Two years later, hestarted worship services at Hiyoshi in Yokohama City. He was supported by Mr. Yoshio Ebisawa, who ran English classrooms atHiyoshi. (The name Lutheran Brethren Church has been in use since 1975)

Rev. Ito served as a pastor for about 30 years. Then Rev. Kiyoshi Taguchi (2001.4~2022.3) had ministered for 21 years.Currently, we are worshiping and evangelizing with the assistance of two elders and seven officers.

We are a Lutheran congregation and a protestant church. We adhere to the following confessional writings. The Apostle’s Creed,Nicere and Athenesian Creed, Unaltered Augsburg Confession, and Luther’s Small Catechism.
